I know that’s an odd title for a blog post but it’s not really because it is true. I’m referring to the United States. Don’t believe me? Read this: (copied and pasted from this website) http://www.wallbuilders.com/libissuesarticles.asp?id=8755
SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; JUDGE; DIPLOMAT; ONE OF TWO SIGNERS OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS; SECOND PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.1
The Holy Ghost carries on the whole Christian system in this earth. Not a baptism, not a marriage, not a sacrament can be administered but by the Holy Ghost. . . . There is no authority, civil or religious – there can be no legitimate government but what is administered by this Holy Ghost. There can be no salvation without it. All without it is rebellion and perdition, or in more orthodox words damnation.2
Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company: I mean hell.3
The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of wisdom, virtue, equity and humanity.4
Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . . What a Eutopia – what a Paradise would this region be!5
I have examined all religions, and the result is that the Bible is the best book in the world.6″
Read that and look at the country now in 2013. Huge difference. The difference is so huge that our country no longer resembles the original one. It’s not better. It’s worse. The moral decay and decline probably rival Sodom and Gomorrah, if not worse than that. I was stunned when I read it. I knew that the founding fathers believed in God but I had no idea how much of God was included in their activities. These great men worshiped a Great God.
What about the other guys? Here’s a few in case you think that Adams was the only one. (taken from same website)
John Quincy Adams
SIXTH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES; DIPLOMAT; SECRETARY OF STATE; U. S. SENATOR; U. S. REPRESENTATIVE; “OLD MAN ELOQUENT”; “HELL-HOUND OF ABOLITION”
“My hopes of a future life are all founded upon the Gospel of Christ and I cannot cavil or quibble away [evade or object to]. . . . the whole tenor of His conduct by which He sometimes positively asserted and at others countenances [permits] His disciples in asserting that He was God.7″
SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; “FATHER OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION”; RATIFIER OF THE U. S. CONSTITUTION; GOVERNOR OF MASSACHUSETTS
He also called on the State of Massachusetts to pray that . . .
- the peaceful and glorious reign of our Divine Redeemer may be known and enjoyed throughout the whole family of mankind.13
- we may with one heart and voice humbly implore His gracious and free pardon through Jesus Christ, supplicating His Divine aid . . . [and] above all to cause the religion of Jesus Christ, in its true spirit, to spread far and wide till the whole earth shall be filled with His glory.14
- with true contrition of heart to confess their sins to God and implore forgiveness through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior.15
“The great, vital, and conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and the divine truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.25″
Congress, U. S. House Judiciary Committee, 1854
“Had the people, during the Revolution, had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that Revolution would have been strangled in its cradle… In this age, there can be no substitute for Christianity… That was the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants.26″
I could go on and on. But in reality, all of the founding fathers of the United States of America worshiped Jesus Christ and sought His counsel. Can you imagine Congress fasting and praying to God before they passed a law? Not now. Not in this century. The only fasting and praying they do is to look at their watches and pray the guy hogging the floor will hurry up because they are starving and didn’t have lunch yet. They would be praying to themselves because they are gods in their own eyes, anyway.
If the apostles suddenly appeared on the earth again, they would have thought that Jesus had forgotten about His creation when they would see the condition of society and that Jesus was not returning. Well, maybe John wouldn’t. He would probably tell the others “This is what I saw in those visions on the Isle of Patmos. Don’t worry, He’s returning just like He said He would. And soon.” (If the founding fathers were to arrive back on earth and see what has happened to the United States, they would immediately organize another revolution.)
Yes, it has gone downhill at warp speed. Remember we are relatively young compared to China, Japan, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (think Pharaohs of Egypt).
Some will say I am an alarmist and things are not that bad. They say that because they don’t know they have been injected by Satan with a virus. The virus of spiritual blindness. A good way to illustrate this is with movies. Did you ever watch an old black and white horror movie, like Dracula? When it was first released people who went to see it were terrified out of their socks. It really scared them. Compare it to movies made now. Movies made now are more graphically horrific with body parts being cut off and a lot of blood splattered all over or other unimaginable horrors. The reason we don’t think the old black and white movie is scary is because we’re immune to it. In the same way we have become immune to evil. We get so much of it shoved down our throats on a daily basis that we don’t think anything of it anymore. Our minds are hardened to it. It takes greater and greater evils to shock us. It has gotten to the point where evil has eventually become an acceptable part of life. Yes, acceptable. If it wasn’t, more would be done about it, starting in the home. Now things like morality are seen as an infringement on another person’s rights. People are not just coming out of closets but they are slithering out from under rocks, too. So good then becomes evil as evil becomes good. This is what Jesus said would happen. Those that speak out against it are looked upon as the enemy. Back in the day of the black and white movie, this would not happen. Society has deteriorated greatly and is becoming increasingly immoral. So this is why people will say that it is not that bad. They have accepted the sewage as normal.
So this is a wake up call. Actually one of many wake up calls because other Christians are shouting it, but few are listening.
We don’t have leaders anymore. We have corrupters. We have ones that say “Don’t pay any attention to some obscure verse of the Apostle Paul.”
Many are disgusted at the way things have turned out. It is getting progressively worse and fast. The Body of Christ needs to make itself ready. We should not be caught slumbering but be about our Father’s business, knowing full well that Jesus’ return is on the horizon.
My gut feeling is that something terrible is on the horizon and few are prepared for and when it comes all will be taken aback and stunned. But we have an everlasting hope in our Heavenly Father. He is not going to let it go too far before He tells Jesus to go and put a stop to it all.
Then everlasting peace will reign. Come Lord Jesus, Come!
